FLORENCE, Ala. - The University of North Alabama Black Faculty and Staff Association will host an educational forum Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. in the GUC Performance Center. Dr. Pat Sanders, BFSA president, said the forum, with the theme "Education - The Common Thread to Success," is intended to provide information on what to expect when attending a college or university and learning its value when entering the business world. "BSFA feels such a forum will encourage students who are considering or who are currently attending to college to complete the effort, finding its worth in connection with their future," she said. "The event will provide a perspective from those who have graduated from college and have become very successful in their fields of study." The educational forum will feature a panel of speakers, including: Fletcher Brown, program director and on-air personality at Big River Broadcasting; Kyle Buchanan, vice president at Helen Keller Hospital; Dr. Kyrel Buchanan, consultant; Dr. Thomas Calhoun, associate vice president for academic affairs at UNA; Marsha Ricks, special education coordinator and career tech director for the Tuscumbia City School System; and Rod Sheppard, a principal in the Florence City School System. The BFSA Executive Committee includes: Sanders; Joan Williams of the UNA Office of Diversity and Institutional Equity; Donna Thompson of the UNA College of Nursing; Freda Coleman-Reed of the UNA Department of Social Work; Jacqueline Winston of the Department of Social Work; Melissa Williams of the UNA Office of Business and Financial Affairs; and Dr. Lelon Davidson of the Office of Diversity and Institutional Equity.
