University Of North Alabama Welcomes Scholar Sarah Beckwith For 2017 Johnston Memorial Shakespeare Lecture

FLORENCE, Ala.-The University of North Alabama Departmentof English will host the annual Albert S. Johnston, Jr. Memorial Shakespeare Lecture, Thursday, Oct. 26, at 2 p.m., in UNA's Wesleyan Auditorium.

The featured speaker for this year's event is renowned scholar Dr. Sarah Beckwith, the Katherine Everett Gilbert Professor of English at Duke University. Beckwith will speak about "Shakespeare's Tragic Landscapes: Ethics and Responsibility in the Late Tragedies."

Beckwith's publications includeChrist's Body: Identity, Religion and Society in Medieval English Writing, Signifying God: Social Relation and Symbolic Act in York's Play of Corpus Christi, and Shakespeare and the Grammar of Forgiveness.

The Memorial Shakespeare Lecture is made possible by the generosity of the Albert S. Johnston, Jr. Endowment. The lecture is free and open to the public.
