FLORENCE, Ala.- During the summer months, UNA College of Business faculty and administrators stay busy presenting at conferences across the country. Their representation at these types of conferences bolsters the reputation of the institution and promotes our area as a touchstone for academic strength. College of Business Dean Greg Carnes and Director of Strategic Engagement Janyce Fadden recently presented a session at the Southern Business Administration Association's Summer Conference in Nashville. Their presentation, titled "Shoals Shift: A Project of Engaged Entrepreneurship," focused on UNA's student engagement in the Shoals Shift Project. The project, partially funded by a grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission, is a unique collaborative effort launched through a creative and entrepreneurship-driven mission to leverage existing assets and develop innovative ways to grow a digital economy in the Shoals area. Carnes' and Fadden's audience consisted of collegiate Deans of Business Programs throughout the southeast. Dr. Doug Barrett, Director of UNA's Institute for Innovation and Economic Development was part of panel discussion at the Texas Rural Challenge Conference hosted by the University of Texas at San Antonio. Barrett was part of a panel of three experts to discuss Regional Approaches for Economic Growth. The Texas Rural Challenge's focus is toconnect rural communities with the resources to spur job creation, expand small businesses, and fuel local economies. "Faculty and staff members in the College of Business at UNA have cultivated well-deserved reputations as national and international experts in a number of relevant and important areas," said UNA Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Ross Alexander.
