FLORENCE, AL - The University of North Alabama will launch the Legacy Initiative Sept. 8 as a means to rebuild Harrison Fountain and Plaza after the fountain collapsed in December of 2019 and to ensure the perpetual vitality of the University.

"This initiative is an opportunity for everyone to establish their legacy at UNA by, effectively, helping to rebuild the heart of the campus, which, for us, is Harrison Fountain and Plaza," said Kevin Haslam, Vice President for University Advancement. "Not only will this allow us to rebuild this beloved area of campus, providing funding to support generations of UNA students, it will allow those who love the University opportunity to have their name etched in the plaza."

The Legacy Initiative, which will have two phases, will include a number of naming opportunities, including benches, trees, marble squares, plaques, and bricks. It will launch in its initial phase to members of the UNA campus community, including faculty, staff, and students; it will open to others beginning in October. This phase will continue until the project is fully funded, including the establishment of an endowment for the ongoing maintenance of Harrison Fountain and Plaza.

"The second phase will allow us to establish an endowment for the greatest needs and emerging priorities of the University," Haslam said. "This phase will continue until every brick in Harrison Plaza, and the pathways leading to it, has the name of someone on it who loves UNA as much as we do."
